Carrie Vaughn is the author of the Kitty the werewolf series of books.  They are:  Kitty and the Midnight Hour, Kitty Goes to Washington, and, most recently, Kitty Takes a Holiday.

In the first book, Kitty is a werewolf with a lot of regular human problems.  You know, job, family, changing into a werewolf at least once a month.  Her job is being a DJ on the overnight shift.  One day, she inadvertently changes the format from music to talk radio about the supernatural.  Except for the last bit, this book reads a lot like very interesting inter-connected stories.  But I still really liked it a lot, so I went on to buy the next book.

In the second book, Kitty has had to leave her home.  Driving across America, she does her now very popular show at different radio stations each time.  Many people have turned to her as the expert.  So much so, that when Congress decides it needs to know more about the supernatural - vampires, weres, what-have-you, they subpoena her to appear.  This is my favorite Kitty book so far - it had a lot of humor, some light romantical elements, a little danger.

Due to the events in Washington, D.C., Kitty decides she needs to take a holiday.  This book went by really fast for me - I read it in about two hours.  It lacked some of the humor I'd come to expect; it's got some pretty dark and scary elements, and the good guys don't win every battle.  I wasn't expecting the darker elements, and so they kind of threw me a bit, but I still enjoyed this book immensely.   It's currently my second favorite Kitty book.

So, as I'm on Carrie Vaughn's mailing list, I decided to email her to let her know what I thought of her book.  And she wrote back, which I think is the height of coolness in an author.  It was obvious from what she wrote that she read what I'd written, that I didn't get some "Thanks for your thoughts - keep reading!!" form letter.  So, much props to her!
